We have four orthopedic doctors and two physician assistants (PAs) at Midwest Orthopaedics ready to serve you. Meet the PAs
Physician assistants (PAs) are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Graduation from an accredited program and passage of the national certification exam are required for state licensure.
The Physician-PA team can help increase efficiency and optimize patient care. Frequent consultation and review of patient care, by both the physician and the PA, assures that all patients are receiving the best possible care. Some of the PA’s responsibilities include:
- Take patient histories
- Perform physical examinations
- Administer injections
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and imaging studies
- Formulate diagnoses and treatment plans
- Schedule surgeries
- Provide surgical assistance
All of these actions are performed with the supervision and consultation of the attending physician.
Meet the PTs
Physical therapists hold a masters or doctoral degree in physical therapy and are required to pass an examination to become certified physical therapists. Many graduates continue on to do an internship, where they train with an experienced physical therapist one-on-one prior to treating patients on their own. Physical therapists can further specialize in particular types of therapy or certain modalities, such as hand therapy or the McKenzie method.
If your doctor prescribes physical therapy, you will be paired with a therapist who will help you to improve your strength, endurance, mobility, and overall physical condition. The therapist will evaluate your baseline strengths, limitations, endurance, balance, and other factors. This information will be used to design an individualized treatment plan. A variety of treatment modalities may be incorporated, such as hot and cold therapy, ultrasound, and manual therapy, and adjustments will be made as needed, based on your progress.
