Ken Filsinger

Ken grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree in Athletic Training in 1991. He worked as an athletic trainer for nine years in Michigan before proceeding on to Physician’s Assistant training at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, graduating in May of 2000. He worked in inpatient rehabilitation and spine surgery prior to joining Midwest Orthopaedics, P.A. in 2005. Ken medically covers the Shawnee Mission West football team.

Physician Assistants (PAs) are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Graduation from an accredited program and passage of the national certification exam are required for state licensure.
Ken’s role is working as a team with Midwest Orthopaedics physicians. The Physician-PA team can help to increase efficiency and optimize patient care. Frequent consultation and review of patient care, by both the physician and the PA assures that all patients are receiving the best possible care. Some of his responsibilities include:

• Taking patient histories
• Performs physical examinations
• Administers injections
• Orders and interprets laboratory tests and imaging studies
• Formulates diagnoses and treatment plans
• Schedules surgeries
• Provides surgical assistance

All of these actions are performed with the supervision and consultation of the attending physician.
