Meet the PAs

Physician assistants (PAs) are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Graduation from an accredited program and passage of the national certification exam are required for state licensure.

The Physician-PA team can help increase efficiency and optimize patient care. Frequent consultation and review of patient care, by both the physician and the PA, assures that all patients are receiving the best possible care. Some of the PA’s responsibilities include:

  • Take patient histories
  • Perform physical examinations
  • Administer injections
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and imaging studies
  • Formulate diagnoses and treatment plans
  • Schedule surgeries
  • Provide surgical assistance

All of these actions are performed with the supervision and consultation of the attending physician.

Meet the PTs

Physical therapists hold a masters or doctoral degree in physical therapy and are required to pass an examination to become certified physical therapists. Many graduates continue on to do an internship, where they train with an experienced physical therapist one-on-one prior to treating patients on their own. Physical therapists can further specialize in particular types of therapy or certain modalities, such as hand therapy or the McKenzie method.

If your doctor prescribes physical therapy, you will be paired with a therapist who will help you to improve your strength, endurance, mobility, and overall physical condition. The therapist will evaluate your baseline strengths, limitations, endurance, balance, and other factors. This information will be used to design an individualized treatment plan. A variety of treatment modalities may be incorporated, such as hot and cold therapy, ultrasound, and manual therapy, and adjustments will be made as needed, based on your progress.

Matthew Stensrud, DPT

Matthew Stensrud

Physical Therapist

Matthew graduated from the University of Kansas in 2008 with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He has worked in a variety of outpatient physical therapy settings and enjoys treating a variety of orthopedic conditions, but his main passion is treating spine/chronic pain and sports related injuries. His greatest enjoyment comes from educating his patients and helping guide them through the process of improving their function. His philosophy relies on empowering the patient through self-awareness of habitual activities, patterning and designing a simple, but effective home program that gives each individual control over their pain/dysfunction. He is excited to be a part of the Midwest Orthopaedics team and managing patient care through optimal communication with the physicians. This teamwork between physician, physical therapist, and patient optimizes patient outcomes.

Dana Stumpff, DPT

Dana Stumpff

Physical Therapist

Dana received her Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from Kansas State University before completing her Doctorate in Physical therapy at KU. She has a wide variety of experience in acute care, outpatient physical therapy, and pediatrics, but her true passion is working in postoperative care and sports medicine to increase patients' quality of life and return them to what makes their lives enjoyable.  As an athlete and former patient of physical therapy, she is able to directly relate to the difficulties of injury and rehabilitation that her patients experience and understand the journey of returning to pre-injury level of function. Dana’s philosophy is a whole body approach to treatment, understanding the unique relationship between psychology and physiology for each individual person. She is excited to be working with the physical therapy team, physicians, and patients of MWO!
